Today marks my five year anniversary for one of Iowa’s leading web development companies, Captain Jack Communications.  In today’s world, five years is a long time.  I can’t help but think back over the course of my web development career and remember the good times and the bad times.  And those inbetween.

I have always thought that the most exciting part of my web development career was over after I left Warner Bros.  I mean, c’mon – it was WARNER BROS!  But the truth I am realizing is that while the work is vastly different, your job is what you make of it.  Sure doing a web site for a car parts dealer is different than dealing with thousands of angry La Femme Nikita fans… but that doesn’t mean I can’t take pride in what I do.

If I never would have left L.A., there are so many things I never would have done, and people I never would have met.  As I start out my fifth year at Captain Jack Communications, I look fondly back at what I have accomplished, and am excited about what I will accomplish in the future.

Instead of the best behind me, there are a vast number of things in front of me.  And while part of me will always want to try and get back in on the action in L.A., for now at least, I’ll focus on other things.  Those experiences in the “big time” will always be a part of me, and I am thankful for the opportunities they continue to present.

What I do next is completely and entirely up to me.
