Troy Needs an iPod

One of my most infamous forays into the national podcasting spotlight came at the peak of Adam Curry’s popularity doing his Daily Source Code. At the time, I was an avid podcaster, but I did not have an iPod or MP3 device of my own. So, I looked to the Internet and asked for donations so that I could get my very own iPod. I did a short promo, sent it to Adam Curry, which prompted my friend (and sometimes rival) Allen to send in a promo of his own. Suddenly, the Troy Needs an iPod contest was born.

Here is a collection of posts, images and MP3s that tell the story..

Welcome! I Need an iPod!

Being a podcaster without an iPod is like.. being a pirate without a sword! It’s like being a doctor without patient, like a firetruck without a siren, or a ballerina without a tutu. (Not that I would know…)

Help me get an iPod. By using the handy dandy PayPal donation screen you see on the front page, you can track the process of me finally getting an iPod. While you can certainly podcast WITHOUT an iPod, having one place to store all of the music I have to listen to for the Iowa Music Podcast, and all the technology and pod-talk shows like Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code, is practically a necessity.

Rather than rake up even more debt, I am appealing to you, the listener for help. Whether you are a fellow podcast, or a pod-listener, I ask that you donate $5, $10, or any amount to this worthy endeavor.

Now you may be hesitant because of all the “donation” schemes like the one recently who solicited donations to hire a member of the world’s oldest profession – only to finally be revealed as a fake.

Every donation to the Troy Needs an iPod fund will receive a mention on my latest podcast. Donations of $50 or more will receive a permanent link on my main podcast web site at www.ruttersramblings.com and a donation of $100 will get you a sponsored audio promotion on every show for a year, in addition to the web site promotion.

BUT WAIT…

If you feel really bad, and want to fully sponsor me and provide me with a brand spanking new 60GB video iPod (white or black) than you can either pledge the entire amount, or enquire as to my postal address and send me one via the Postal Service, UPS or the shipper of your choice.

This is your chance to get me fully indebted to you for life!

This domain was purchased through the Daily Source Code godaddy.com promotion for only $7.20 – listen to the Daily Source Code at http://deltasierracharl.podshow.com/

Donation Update

Thank you to everybody who has sent in their donations to troyneedsanipod.com. There is some stratling news to report. We have noticed a new web site has appeared entitled, ineedanipodmorethantroy.com. I want to assure everybody who visits this web site that contrary to the claims made on that site, I will NOT use my new iPod to view hours of midget monkey pornography.

Below, please find links to political advertisements from both sides. Clearly ineedanipodmorethantroy.com is resorting to smear campaigns and outright fallacies while us here at TroyNeedsanIpod.com appeal directly to you and do not try and paint the opposition in a bad light.

Who needs an iPod more? You, the listener can judge.

I Need an iPod Update

The Star Wars ad for troyneedsanipod.com was featured on Adam Curry today. And now… there appears to be a new contest. Anybody who registers a new domain name at godaddy using the DSC3 code, will be entered into the “register a better domain name than Troy” contest from The Daily Source Code.

A list of donors will be available here soon. Thank you for your support!

Win an iPod and support the TNIF

Here is how you can enter to win your own vidoe iPod AND help support the Troy Needs an iPod Foundation all at the same time. If you have no idea how to register a domain, don’t want to register it yourself, or just simply don’t want the domain in your godaddy.com account – I CAN HELP!

Simply donate $10 or more to the Troy Needs an iPod Foundation and let me know what domain name you would like me to register on your behalf. Simple! If that domain name is the winner of Adam Curry’s contest, I will contact you, get your vital details, and have Adam send you your iPod. A domain name costs about $7.20 after tax, so a $10 donation will donate $2.80 to the iPod effort. An even bigger donation will make an even bigger dent.

We are over 1/10th of the way there! Even if your domain name is a personal slam on my iPod effort – I DONT CARE! Donate $10 or more to the cause, let me know the domain name you want, and I will register it for you.

Want to contribute your entry to the Troy Needs an iPod Foundation? We can do that too! Make the same donation, and I will register your domain name, make a donation to the Foundation, AND enter the domain name in my name to Adam Curry’s contest.

Don’t delay – donate today!

More information on the contest

More information on the TroyNeedsAnIpod.com challenge can be heard on Daily Source Code #427. Adam will be keeping the contest open either until the end of this week or next week. New Audio Files Posted

Find out more about the contest by clicking over on the right hand side under “Audio Files” – AC said OK to post them, so you can find out all about YOUR chance to win an iPod from the man himself, Adam Curry.

My birthday is next Tuesday – what would be better than being able to do a Sound-Seeing tour of me going to Best Buy to purchase the iPod that YOU helped me to buy? Make your donation today and that’s exactly what I will do. If I don’t raise the funds by Tuesday, the web site will be up until I do… or, at least until I scrape together enough pennies to go get one to further help my podcasting.

If you do not want to be mentioned in the podcast for donating, you can also specify that in the donation form itself. PayPal is fast, easy and secure and allows you to donate with your credit card, or your bank accoutn or PayPal account.

Keep watching this space for more announcements.

Last Hours for the Contest

Last hours for Adam’s contest at http://www.dailysourcecode.com! There are only a handful of entries posted so far, so register a domain name mocking this one (hey wait a minute) and go over there, join the show, and post it up on the show comments.

TroyNeedsAnIpod.com however will continue to be up until the fateful day that I acquire my own iPod goodness. Did I mention its my birthday Tuesday?

Thank you for your donations

Thank you to everybody who donated to TroyNeedsAnIpod.com. If you heard the Charlie today, you’ll know that my quest is going to be fulfilled. However, that brings me to the donations…

I am going to keep the donation section open under August 31st. At that time, all donations will be withdrawn, and the sum of the donations will be donated to the Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, IA. I’m sorry I can’t make tax-deduction slips for everybody (I don’t think I can anyway) – but rest assurred that your donation will be going to a great hospital doing great things for kids.

I will keep updating this page with more information, links to contest entries, and more. Thank you again.

If you want to donate directly to the Blank Children’s Hospital, please follow this online donation link.

Troy (still) Needs an iPod

It has been two weeks since PodShow called for my address to send the iPod to, and now I am starting to get worried. Even Adam said on his show last Thursday that it should have been there by now. I know it will eventually come, and I don’t want to sound like an ass bugging them for something I am getting for free, I am genuinely worried it got lost.

I’m just hoping there is some kind of a tracking number they can track.

Instead of being excited when the mail comes at work, every day I am more and more upset about it. I just hope everything gets straightened out.

Worried.
