Send Me A Song… literally

I’ve had a lot of lofty goals in my life.   Most of them I have met head on, based on determination and something inside of me that has been called “cahones.”

But there is one goal that I can’t do alone – record a song.

I can’t play any instrument.   I played trombone for a few years in elementary school, but thats about it.   I’ve worked with several talented singers and songwriters over the years, but most of them I have lost contact with.

What I need to know is:   How does someone who can’t write a song…. find a song to “record?”  Do I license an already performed, copyrighted work, or do I try and find a song people are looking to have someone record.  if so, how do I contact a publisher and say “send me song demos, Im interested in recording something” ?

Whoever can hook me up with a good song that I can record will get my eternal thanks and who knows what else.

rock/slow rock preferred.  To my podcasting/blogging buddies think Geoff Smith / Guitar man of central park… etc.

Internal Conflict

Ever have one of those dreams where y ou totally chew out somebody you like and respect, to the point where the friendship is completely ruined because in the dream, you told that person each and every thing that you had been holding back – or worse… things that you consciously didn’t know bugged you?

I just had one of those… and its from the ‘”where did THAT come from” department.

Very odd.

Hate to Say It….

As much as I like the theme here on troyrutter.com by Justin, its VERY confusing for the casual visitor.  New posts aren’t “first” like you would expect, and I have to add them to a feature category in order to get them to appear in that first block.

All in all – its a magazine layout, not a typical blog layout.

Finding Content Ideas

Many bloggers, or would-be-bloggers, end up with the same old cry of “I don’t know what to write about!” Well, the answer is “WRITE SOMETHING! QUICK!” I always like to think of writing a blog post like going to a botanical center, or a friend’s house that has a pond full of koi. I always like to feed them, and when you drop in food, they always rush and bump into each other, each frantically trying to get to the food. (the same activity can be seen in the popular game Insane Aquarium.) Your content is the food, and Google / Your audience are the koi. They are waiting there for your next post.

So where do you get ideas?

Well, you can wait for Chris Brogan to post another 100 Ideas for Bloggers on his blog. But the best way to never run out of ideas is to make yourself an editorial calendar. You can use a regular calendar, a Google Calendar like Steve Rubel, or even Microsoft Excel like Andy Wibbels does.  I started using the Andy Wibbels spreadsheet last week, and it has proved useful every day.   I have days marked with Content, Community, Commerce, Facebook, Social networks so I know what I can talk about on a certain day.  By getting into this habit, your readers will also know what to expect.  Now everybody knows that I should be talking about “content” on Wednesdays.

Content is so important to the web, from getting a good PR, to simply providing something useful.
