Priorities

When I first auditioned for a show at the Ames Community Theater, I had no idea that the path I was headed down would lead me to being the 1st Vice President for the second year in a row. Now, in reality, it’s not that extraordinary. I mean, it’s just another organization right?

Well, it is whatever you put into it, I suppose.

After directing the last production, and doing sound for the current one, I thought that my nights away would be filled with lounging around, watching TV, maybe playing a few computer games, going to the movies - something like that. But as I sit here labeling envelopes and doing mail merges, I realize once again that volunteering means different things to different people.

Some people are comfortable attending a meeting a month and calling it good. Others, like me, spend all of their waking hours trying to figure out a way to take the organization to the next level. Right now I am trying to raise money to buy new chairs for our auditorium. Its only about 150 chairs. $50 a piece. Should be easy - but convincing the public to donate to a non-profit organization is harder than it seems.
