Survived!

I survived Halloween while ducking the possibilities of door-ringers.   I was only home for a short while, but it felt rather silly leaving all the lights off and sneaking from room to room, hoping kids wouldn’t make a bee-line for the nearest place with lights that they saw.

Trick or Treating has become almost a joke, as even when I did have the light on last year, nobody came.  Parents are so paranoid, not only do they drive their kids from house to house, but only to people they know.  Even in the late 80’s, early 90’s (which wasn’t THAT long ago!) we would descend upon a neighborhood and kids would be everywhere in groups.  People would give out pounds and pounds of candy.  Now, the sounds of children’s laughter and friendly banter amongst themselves has been reduced to the sound of a car pulling up outside Uncle Mikey’s house.

Ding Dong.  Hi!  Bye! Vrooom.

The spirit of Halloween is dead.
