First Official Weigh-In

So on the day of the Official First Weigh-In…

219.6!

Now, “officially” that means I have lost 5.4 lbs this past week, which I don’t believe because a) that would be very unhealthy and b) weight seems to shift up and down every other day, so who knows what tomorrow will say.

For instance, one day would start at 225, the next day would be 222, then the next day 223.5, then the next day 221.5, etc. It’s kind of weird. I’m not sure if its my scale or what. This is probably why most people won’t do a weigh-in except once a week. But………. I like small goals and usually the day-to-day weigh ins satisfy those. And if it goes back up on the odd day, that just means I need to work harder toget it down again (which it does).

So, I’m sticking with 219.6. It’s also the first of my “major hurdles” as I am setting a hurdle point at ever “10 mark.” Now, I know that 225-220 = 5. But if you look at it by the numbers, its on a “10″ - ie: 20. So the next hurdle is at 210. I have definitely been feeling the effects of diet and exercise, and am beginning to notice a little change, even with only 5 lbs.

I saw a promo for “Starting Over” yesterday where the woman was forced to carry her “emotional baggage” in a literal sense. I have taken that approach when doing reps with the dumbells. I have been using 10 lb weights, and when it gets more difficult to do a rep, I just think that I have that much and more to still lose, and I’m carrying that around with me all day. Seems to help squeeze in a few more reps, and occassionally another set.

Excellent work, don’t get hung up on the numbers - just keep at it!

A quick loss of several pounds at the start of the process is not unusual. In essence, the change in your regimen has caught your body’s usual mechanisms for managing your calories off-guard. Your body may respond by reducing its metabolic rate because it’s programmed to preserve your stockpile of calories (i.e., the weight you want to lose) during periods of food scarcity. That’s why the second week’s weigh-in so often disappoints–the body thinks it’s protecting the dieter by conserving stored fat. Don’t be discouraged if you hit a weight-loss plateau; eventually your body will get the message that you’ve changed the way you’re living.

Congrats on the 5lb loss. Keep up the good work.

jealous… completely jealous….

A lot of things can affect what your scale says, everything from how much water is in your system to your clothes. The most accurate weigh-in you can get is first thing in the morning, after you’ve relieved yourself and without any clothes on.

BTW, I’ve lost between 35-40 lbs of fat over the past year. Just a little motivation. Keep at it, and good things will happen.
