Just the Tax, Ma’Am
So, after finishing theperformances for the weekend, I am now waist-high in receipts and 1099’s and trying to do taxes. This year is especially a doozy since I have both a web site side business, and the photography business from last summer. Even itemizing everything, it still doesn’t add up to $5000, so it hardly seems worth the effort. But, ya gots to do what ya gots to do.
Ive been having fun watching old SeaQuest episodes from the DVD set I bought. I really liked the show, so its going to be fun to do a web site on it when I get free time. Free time? ahhhhhhhhhhhhh that would be nice.
Today I did something totally unexpected, and very out of the norm for me. Before the play, I went to King Buffet (yes, I swore Id never go there again, but..) and had an overpriced lunch. $9 on Sundays. As I was getting ready to leave, three National Guard servicemen walked in and then went through the buffet area. I took my bill up to the counter and then asked the clerk to add their meals to mine. “Are they friends of yours?” he asked. I told him “Yes, but I’ve never actually met them.” and got a puzzled look. After I paid, I went over to their table and thanked them for what they do, serving our country and told them I paid for their lunch. They genuinely thanked me, and then I left.
Once in the car, I lost it. For some reason I spent the next five minutes in tears. It wasn’t necessarily because I had done a “good thing” but more that I could tell they were happy I just thanked them, much less paying the $27 for them to have lunch.
I believe kindness is infectious. So I hope it made their day, and they will maybe one day talk about the day someone did something nice for them.
