Search Phrases

I look at my web page stats regularly – probably too much. One of the sections that always amazes me are the search phrases people type into google or yahoo, which then lead them here to troyrutter.com.

Some are understandable. For instance, I see a lot of referrals from people searching for Nora Dunn, and I took a picture of her that is in my gallery.. Another understandable one is for “Cobra Kai Costume” since I mentioned the one I made two years ago several times in my blog, and have a web site cobrakaidojo.com. I suspect now that Pat Morita died, that I will be getting more and more traffic there as well.

Some however, don’t make any sense. For instance…

I have had 16 referrals to troyrutter.com for people typing in: “i farted on santa s lap” which I guess is a song.. Don’t know why they are brought here, but hey – I welcome you. Click on the link above and you will be whisked away to Amazon.com – buy now, buy often.

Another search term is: “www.tmnt.com” – and while I used to like the little heroes in the half-shell, not sure why I am coming up for them either.

Anyway, if I find any other strange search terms, I will post them. They are kind of fun to go through.

Web Site Redesigned

I redesigned the web site for my book last weekend. I used tables temporarilly until I fix the css… but it is still perty.

Inside the C6

I just got back from visiting the exciting C6 simultor at Iowa State. It is a six-sided VR “cave” that projects images onto every wall, including the ceiling and the floor. Tonight they did a program on fire safety where we had to identify all of the fire hazards in the many rooms of the Colorado mansion, and then get on our hands and knees when the smoke started to fill the room.

I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I was mildly disappointed. I had played the Virtuality VR game (you remember – with the headset and and the round magnetic ring that you stood in) and that was fun. But this was awfully jerky and even less photo-realistic than BZ-flag. They had SGI computers running Linux, and the nice lady who ran the simulation told us they were hopig to upgrade the computers soon.

It was still fun though – at one point our “guide” who was controlling the simulation opened a door but didn’t wait to go through it, so we all kind of smacked into the door. At another point we were walking down a hallway and I must have been looking all around and walking myself because I realized just in time that I was up against one of the walls.

It shows promise, but I thought they were further along than that. But still, very very cool.
