Up and Down
I spent most of this morning and afternoon sweating out nausea and probably a fever at home. Yesterday afternoon at work I spent most of the time in the restroom with an upset stomach, but last night and this morning was something totally different. I don’t get sick very often, but the last few times I HAVE gotten sick was right after lunch, so much so it seems like every time I go out to lunch it is a gamble of getting sick or not.
So, Im not going out to eat for a while at lunch. I’ll either bring my lunch or do the fantabulous Slim-Fast shake meal plan. What sucks about calling in sick for work, is I either don’t get paid, or have to use “comp” time that is accumulated hours over 40. So after today, I think Ill only have like 7 hours saved up from since I started working there in April. Sigh.
Plus, since this is the 2nd or third time it has happened since I started there, they may start thinking I use lunch as an excuse to take a sick day. Oh yeah, riiiiiight. The last time I stayed home I wwent to the doctor and had tests for West Nile, Tetanus, Meningitis, etc., boy THAT was fun. But you know, if people thought I was faking it, I don’t really care. I would rather stay home feeling miserable than be at work feeling sick and be 30 miles from home with a long drive at 5pm.
No Thanks.
I like my job, I like the people who work there, and truth be told Id rather be at work than home feeling miserable. What is it about our jobs that make us so paranoid to take a sick day? Is it the high unemployment rate that makes us think we will be fired if we miss one day? Whatever it is, it is also the cause of me not taking my proper vacation time during my other various jobs.
Ive mentioned before how I feel sick when I go out to lunch, and yet I always do it. I think simply not going out for a few weeks will make a wonderful difference both physically and mentally.
We’ll see.

Yikes! There is a lot of that going around. I hope you are feeling better soon. I think it’s a wise idea to bring your own lunch for awhile, see if it helps. Maybe you are more prone to food poisoning or something?
I feel the same way about the whole job paranoia thing. Granted, I have a ridiculous number of sick hours saved up since starting my job nearly six years ago, but I still fight taking any time off, and go into work when I should be at home. Monday I was pretty out of it, but Tuesday I kept feeling that I should be at work, since I felt a little better.
Get well soon, and stick to the peanut butter sandwiches for awhile
