Update Successful

All of the “real” readers won’t notice anything, but I managed to upgrade to 3.2 beta of Movable Type this morning. I would like to say it was painless, but as you probably noticed from my previous experiences, nothing is as it seems.

I eventually had to delete my old movable type directory, install the full version of the beta, and then simply move by database and config files into the new version to get it to work. Lot of BS, but hey – it seems to have worked out ok.

The new MT allows me to stop the annoying trackback pings from porn and poker sites, so that is good.

Anyway, just thought I would keep you updated.

Beam Him Up

It was a little over a year ago when I blogged So Long, Scotty, but I never thought we would lose James Doohan so soon. Doohan passed away in his home this morning. As I mentioned in my entry on his Walk of Fame star, he was always one of the most generous and people-friendly speaker at conventions. He will be missed.

The loss has even left author/blogged Wil Wheaton at a loss for words.

Goodbye, Jimmy – we’ll miss you.

Riff-Raff, Call-Back, I Don't Buy That…

Well, the call-back on Wednesday could have done better. I really thought I could pull off the role of El Gallo, but it just wasn’t to be. However, I did get a part in the musical – that of Bellomy, the girl’s father. One of the wonderful lines from one of the songs has to do with pouring jam on a cat. Why would they do that? Because we said no!

Anyway, so yeah – should be fun. And in reality it is a bit of pressure release. Being the lead/narrator in my first musical/play in over 12 years would have no doubt produced nightmares about forgetting my lines and so forth. And I have had enough of those over the years to last a lifetime!

So my nights and weekends are pretty much shot until October. But I can’t wait to get started. We have the first table read on Monday night, so we will get our script books etc etc then. Then I will REALLY know what I’ve gotten myself into. :)

Tim Conway is In Da House!

I received an autograph from Tim Conway today – it is pretty cool. I am slowly re-scanning my collection and putting it up in my Gallery. You can jump straight to the Autograph section by clicking here.

Here And Back Again

You’ll notice it has been an eternity since the last entry. This is not to mean there hasn’t been anything going on – rather the opposite, really. Things have been so crazy lately, it is difficult to find the time and site down to blog.

This weekend is the Iowa Games – I will be taking team photos for the Under 10 boys/girls/coed teams as they are presented their medals. It is the first gig for Mid-Iowa Sports, so I hope it does well. There are over 300 teams total, so I don’t quite know what to expect. All I can do is pray for no rain.

In other news, last night I auditioned for a local community production of The Fantasticks – a popular musical that lasted many years in New York and has a loyal following. My audition is not likely to grace the front page of The Wilster, but it was nice to get up and put myself out there again. I received a call-back already for Wednesday so we’ll see what happens.

Until then…
